7 Card Stud Poker

7 Card Stud Poker is often an overlooked Poker game variant but it is one of the hardest of poker games to play, but with a little practice, skill and of course a level head and a good Poker Strategy you will soon be able to master it and hopefully and end up a much better player.

Once upon a time 7 Card Stud Poker was the most popular of all poker games but it is now dominated by the more popular game of Texas Holdem.

The game itself has a set of easy to follow game play rules and the game will start with all players being dealt just 2 cards, one of these cards are dealt face down and the other is face up.

The one player who has the lowest ranked upcard will be the one who has to place a bring in wager, and then the betting will continue in the normal clockwise fashion.

Initial Betting Round

The bring-in is for all intents and purposes an initial wager which sets the game on its way and as such the next person to make his move after the player with the lowest up card cannot just check his hand.

Sometimes when two players may have the same low cards and when this happens the suit of the card will be used to determine the lowest ranked hand

The suit ranking used for this purpose are usually that the diamonds are the lowest followed by clubs, hearts, and spades will usually be deemed the highest suit.

Should you be playing a variant in which no bring in is being utilized then the first betting round will commence with the player who has the highest ranked upcard.

The Player who is placed at the first spot after the dealer (clockwise) will be first to bet, this player in this type of game is permitted to check their hand.

Once the first round of betting has finished then yet another upcard is dealt to each player, the player with the highest ranked poker hand based on these upcards is the person who starts this betting round. This opening betting rule will continue from this round onwards.

The first player to bet at this stage may check or raise his wager up to the games maximum limit. The remaining rounds follow the same betting pattern.

The final round will have all of the players still in the game being dealt just one more down card and then a showdown may be put into play whereby each player simply has to make the best five card poker hand he can out of the seven cards he was dealt.
